A Biblical Shrine across the Centuries The Memorial of Moses on Mt. Nebo.
Abstract
"The Memorial of Moses on Mount Nebo, one of the most important Byzantine monastic complexes, was built in the place where Moses contemplated the Promised Land. In fact, the coenobium is part of a large network of monasteries linked to the devotion of Biblical figures that arose beyond the Jordan River. After an introduction on the characteristics of Monasticism in the Provincia Arabia, the lecture will address the new interpretation of the construction phases of the basilica and a study of the daily life of the monastery. This approach will allow the highlighting, not only of the religious, economic and social aspects of the monastic community, but also of the abandonment of the complex. This analysis was possible thanks to new archaeological research promoted by the Studium Biblicum Franciscanum, in which the speaker was involved".
Il Dr. Bianchi si occupa di archeologia della tarda antichità e del primo cristianesimo nel Vicino Oriente, delle relazioni religiose e culturali tra Roma e Gerusalemme in epoca bizantina, del monachesimo in Terra Santa, di epigrafia, pratiche funerarie e venerazione delle reliquie negli spazi sacri.
Collabora da anni con il Prof. E. Alliata nel Terra Sancta Museum, quale consulente archeologo per la catalogazione e lo studio dei reperti e la redazione di testi per le sale dedicate al monachesimo, ed è amico di vecchia data della nostra Istituzione accademica.
